PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents,

WELCOME TO 2018

I would like to begin by extending my congratulations to everyone for the smooth start to 2018. After both enjoyable and relaxing holidays all students have returned ready to begin what promises to be an exciting year of learning and discovery at Mentone Park. The classrooms are buzzing and the students are smiling and my morning walk through the school makes me extremely proud of our entire community.

As I am sure you all know by now Miss Justine Arentz is now Mrs French after her beautiful wedding to Scott over the break. I know the students have made her feel very special.

CONGRATULATIONS JO AND GILLY

The wonderful news keeps coming with the announcements that Jo Bon and Gilly O’Connor are expecting beautiful new additions to their families during the first half of this year. Jo will be with us for Term 1 and Gilly will begin her leave later in Term 2.

NEW STAFF

This year we welcome 4 new staff members to our amazing education team at MPPS. Danielle Kruger is teaching in the Senior School, Christina Savva in the Junior School and Revere Beynon and Melinda Mitchell-Daws bring their expert knowledge and experience to our Integration and Student Support team.

UNIFORM

Last year School Council ratified and we published our revised uniform policy. Red MPPS polos, black shorts or pants and a girls summer dress are the staple of what is a smart, casual and functional uniform and I would like to thank all families for ensuring students arrive every day looking neat and tidy.

As per the policy, could I please request that student hair accessories be either black, red or white and neatly keep hair back. If a student’s hair length (Boys or Girls) is past the collar it should be tied back neatly. Socks should either be plain black or white.

Lastly student school bags should be MPPS or a plain dark colour. When worn correctly school bags are designed to support young back bones and muscles.

By now many of you would have heard the positive reviews of our new school lunch order service. Yesterday staff and students enjoyed a healthy lunch that was delivered fresh to their rooms. Registering only takes a few minutes and you can then choose from a large variety of items. You can order up till 8:30am on the day or in advance if you choose. Orders are available on Wednesdays and Fridays.

FOUNDATION 2018

What an amazing group of new students we have this year. Every day the classroom is full of smiling faces and happy students. In only the first few days of school you have made us all very proud of you.

FEES

Thank you to all families who have either paid their school fees or made arrangements to pay by instalments. Here at Mentone Park we would never let finance get in the way of a quality education for every child so if you would like to discuss a payment plan that suits your family’s needs please come and talk with us.

INTERVIEWS AND INFORMATION NIGHTS

Communication is vital to ensure that your child is given the opportunity to achieve their very best. Whilst all of our staff are always open to discuss any issues that may present themselves, we would like to invite you to attend the following sessions in the coming weeks. Shortly you will receive a Flexibuzz with login details to select an interview time with your child’s teacher as well as let us know if you are able to attend an Information Evening with general information about the coming year.

NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON

Our new website is nearly ready to launch. Myself and some tech savvy staff will be meeting with the web developer on Monday Feb 12, to go over the new site and ensure it is everything we want it to be.

Once it goes live we will have the ability to add, change or remove content easily, thus ensuring it is a valuable resource for school communication.

Stay tuned for a launch date.

2019 ENROLMENTS - THE SECRET IS OUT

Its only February but we are already conducting tours and taking enrolments for 2019. We would ask that families with children commencing in 2019 contact the office for an enrolment form as soon as possible, as this will enable us to plan for future growth and help prevent large classes through ‘late’ enrolments. If you have any questions about enrolling your child, I am more than happy to answer them; so feel free to drop by.

As I did last year I will be attending Kindergartens, Early Learning Centres and Child care Centres to promote our wonderful school so if you know of anyone looking I would be more than happy to give them a personalized tour.
Best wishes

OSHCLUB News

Welcome back all, for another year at Mentone Park and at OSHClub!
This week's goal is to share acts of kindness to one another. With many new students at the beginning of the year, particularly from prep. t's an important part in helping them feel a part of our community. OSHClub kids will be focusing on inclusiveness, friendship and appreciation.

Next Week (12th Feb – 16th Feb )

Healthy choices and why we make them is the theme of next week. Including aspects from not only eating healthy, but exercise and sun smart behaviours to name a couple.

OSHClub Co-ordinator

SCHOOL BANKING

School banking will resume on Wednesday February 14.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Dear Mentone Park Families,
Welcome to another year at school and the beginning of a new issue of Scholastic Book Club catalogues! Issue one orders are due in by 16th February. Orders can be left with the office or please order via the online ordering system called  “LOOP”  - details are in the catalogue. When ordering there is an option to mark as a gift if you would like your order sent to the office instead of to class for your child to take home.

To families new to our school the Scholastic Book Club generates reward points which we claim back throughout the year as new books and resources for teachers to use in class. Each book club order earns 20% in rewards points – they soon add up! Scholastic often have some great books on special for as little as $2, so look out for their “gold coin books” in the catalogue
If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office or call the Scholastic Customer Service number 1800021233.
Best wishes
Jenny O – Book club coordinator
