PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents,
AMAZING NEWS!!!!!!

As I posted today on Flexibuzz and Facebook we have been successful in obtaining funding in the recent state budget to enable us to get started on establishing a Master Plan for the future of Mentone Park Primary School. Whilst this is only the beginning it is a significant vote of confidence in the strategic direction of our school and the important place we occupy in our community.
As more information is provided from the Department of Education I will keep you all updated as we progress with our plans. I will also be seeking community input later in the year. No matter if you’re a past, present or future member of the Mentone Park PS community, today’s announcement is a vote of confidence that the future of Mentone Park PS is very very bright.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to the students from Grades 3 – 6 who competed in the District Cross Country on Monday. Whilst every student should be congratulated for their efforts I must recognize Billy and Kosta from Grade 6 and Daniel from Grade 5 who will be moving on to the next level of competition against other successful runners.
Thank you to Matt Hardie, Nick Wilton, Jayne O’Neill and Hope Laycock for your organization and supervision on the day.
AUSTRALIAS WASTESAVER
We have our large bins in the Kids Café where you can donate clothes that you may not need or your kids have out grown. These are collected regularly and given to families in need.
LET US KNOW IF YOUR CHILD IS AWAY
If your child is away from school, please either record your child’s absence through Flexibuzz or call the office to let us know as soon as possible. Many of you will remember the recent media attention around this issue and due to a change of policy schools will be required to notify parents when a child is absent. Your assistance with this will help us make sure that all students are safe.
MOTHERS DAY
Tuesday May 8 is our Mothers Day Breakfast so don’t forget to jump on QKR to reserve your spot. A special reminder about our Mother’s Day Stall on Thursday  May 10 when students can purchase a memorable gift for mum, nan or that special person in their lives.
UNIFORM
I have been asked recently about the new school jumper. I would like to make it clear that this is an addition to our current uniform range. The very popular bomber jacket and vest will still be available to purchase or hand down to siblings. The round neck windcheater will cease production from PSW. There are plenty of windcheaters available from second hand uniform at school.
CURRICULUM DAY – FRIDAY JUNE 1ST
June 1 will be an assessment and reporting day for staff.
Students are not required at school.
OSHClub will run on this day. Please let OSHClub know as soon as possible if your child will be attending on June 1.
ENROLMENT FOR 2019
Don’t forget that you can pick up an enrolment form from the office if you have a child starting Foundation in 2019. This week, I visited 20 Kindergartens and Early Learning Centres with our transition information and tour opportunities for new families. Getting your enrolment forms in early, will help us to confirm our enrolment expectations. As I have mentioned previously we already have a number of new families enrolled for 2019. Many of whom have heard positive feedback from the community about our wonderful school.

Best wishes

Cameron Agars
Principal

SCHOOL BANKING - EVERY WEDNESDAY

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Dear Mentone Park Families,

Welcome to another year at school and the beginning of a new issue of Scholastic Book Club catalogues!. Orders can be left with the office or please order via the online ordering system called  “LOOP”  - details are in the catalogue. When ordering there is an option to mark as a gift if you would like your order sent to the office instead of to class for your child to take home.

To families new to our school the Scholastic Book Club generates reward points which we claim back throughout the year as new books and resources for teachers to use in class. Each book club order earns 20% in rewards points – they soon add up! Scholastic often have some great books on special for as little as $2, so look out for their “gold coin books” in the catalogue

If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office or call the Scholastic Customer Service number 1800 021 233.

Best wishes

Dear Parents,

If you have any preloved MPPS uniforms please drop these off at the office. If you would like to purchase any items for a very reasonable price, please send a text to Megan or Jess to arrange a meeting time.

We have different items coming in all the time so if we didn't have what you were after last time you checked, it might be worth trying us again.
Thank you
